Black Dragon is MY Viewer, i decide which feature i want to add and which to remove, i share this Viewer to show the world that user base size is not important, i do rate quality by effort, thought and love put into the project, not some rough estimated numbers. I consider feature requests only if i you can name proper valid reasons i can agree on. It is my (unpaid) time i'm putting into this project, i'm not here to cater to every Joe's desires.

Alpha 2.3.2

It's time....tooooooo....UPDATE! or die.

I know i'm a bit slow atm but keeping the Viewer up to date, maintaining it, fixing stuff and basically redoing everything you've done already proves a bit more of a time waste than i thought, especially if you're feeling an increased need to play some games here and there.

This is also the last update before i will focus on heavier UI modifications, which also include totally redoing the Preferences floater, i'm not entirely sure if it will stay a floater this time or if i'm going to do that Sidebar thing i was originally planning.... but hey, we'll see.

So....this update comes with alot of CHUI bugfixing aswell as MAINT, NORSPEC (Materials) and general bugfixes (BUG and, CHOP) and ofcourse my own rotation of changes. See the changelog for a complete list of changes.

General:

I squashed alot of bugs, like the Chat Range Rings not working correctly, the Topbar background going nuts on Mouselook/Minilocationbar switch, "Busy Mode" not working (its called 'Do not disturb' now), the empty Local Chat tab in Conversations beeing selected whenever you opent he seperated Local Chat floater among a few other things.

I also merged CHUI, Viewer Development, Cocoa and brought everything up to date.

Some cleanups inbetween (not too much right now as i will do that later in maintenance updates) and generally some small changes here and there that should give back a bit more of a 'Nirans' feeling...things like Reset View will not change your Camera Preset anymore, some layout changes in the Script floater and Machinima Sidebar aswell as some options that were removed due to them beeing obselete and/or not working anymore.

Rendering:

Best change for you probably is the implementation of Screen Space Reflections (again) from Tofu, which can also be toggled on/off just like before. Internally it is now using a permutation system (basically an shader file if/else system connectable with Debug Settings or Viewer internal code) which will also allow new little neat tricks in future :)

Also Tone Mapping defaults were slightly changed for a slightly nicer and especially brighter look to match non Tone Mapping a bit more.

Sometimes i would like to give the sky a slighly more blueish touch, not for me, just so you stop complaining about 'washed out' colors.

Snapshots:

Anyway, enjoy this brand new update.
Niran.

  2. Wow! Nice job, Niran. Thank you!

  3. hank you, up Tate. However, it is anxious because a bug worried about remained. The bug that an avatar is not displayed if there are many wearing things remains. I hope that it is canceled. Because graphic is very good, I like the viewer which you make very much. I perform the viewer completion that can customize environment like a former viewer in various ways to enjoy it. Thank you for a good viewer. I expect it and wait from now on.

    1. That is NOT a bug. It's a feature as explained in several previous posts and comments. You can disable it manually by setting RenderAutoMuteSurfaceAreaLimit to 0.

  5. There's a bug with the inventory. The Recent tab filter resets to default. I wish it would stay on three days ago, when I set that.

  6. thanks for the work you're doing! With this release, when I do teleport to any sim, some avatars I see them invisible.

This happens to me with different avatars with or without mesh. My video setting can be low or high, but the same thing happens.

I tried to close the viewer and logon in the same spot, and avatars that I see invisible continue to be invisible

If I enter with another viewer in the same spot, I see fine all avatars, none of them are invisible.

This happens to me with versions "alpha 2.3.1" and now with "alpha 2.3.2"

    1. Because they arnt integrated into the UI yet, there's no important need for them anyway as you will most likely change them and then ask me how to revert them as theres no revert button to them. They work fine as they are, next update will maybe include them already... idk.

  10. ah ok .. is true, I mainly only sometimes switch between 1D gammut and Linear. the other sliders never got any use

    1. 1D Gammut and Linear is the same as on and off. Just as you can do right now.

  11. I can't enable shadows and stuff. Any idea why?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Maybe your video card isn't recognized (it tell you at the first start) or your video card is a low-tier video card that doesnt support shadows n stuff.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah it says it's not recognized. I have a geforce titan. I can run firestorm completely maxed besides view distance. Is there some file(s) I could send you to help or should I just wait it out? I'm totally cool with waiting it out if it's just my card.

      Delete
    2. I just tried UKanDo viewer and the latest official linden viewer and both do the same thing. The firestorm team should be in charge of second life. At least we know it's not your viewer's fault so I'm sure yours will work when the official viewer works.

  13. so, i started using the a little more, i not sure why, but the older Niran's the shadows are starting to look a little crummy, maybe fixes come as of late or something I did a full sun/shadow on the face as was pretty impress it looks pretty nice I am still nervous using this for client shoots just not as comfortable as on the old. One thing i really hope comes back is the ability to save preferences settings it made the life of a photographer so so so much easier!

  14. I am sure these already listed little bugs, but i noticed when for instance changing gamma with the slider the number doesnt change, seems many of the sliders like that. Also, noticed a 'derender' has been eliminated - is that coming back?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is no slider for Gamma at all. Also Gamma should NEVER EVER be touched. It will permanently increase/decrease screen brightness even when Second Life is closed hence why they were removed for good in Nirans Viewer and will be removed in BD aswell (when i redo the preferences floater).

Also "Derender" was never eliminated as it was never implemented into Black Dragon. It was planned for the next few updates.

      Delete
  15. Niran, can you tell me what the default gamma is now? it shows 2.0 (usually default is 1) and when i type in 1 it is rather dark. I am not sure what the differences are between this viewer and the older nirans. in my 'normal' settings no deferred rendering just basic shaders and atmospheric shaders on daytime preset i made and use everything is bright and crisp, the same WL and presumable the same viewer setting, it is much darker, heavier contrast, much much blacker blacks. I want to move onto black dragon but i am trying to figure out what the differences are, or even something up with my vid card can't handle something new in this (nvidia gtx 445 mobile card) I done some shots, though nite scenes, and i like it but i am right now nervous using this for paid jobs till i can figure out what the differences are. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The default Gamma value is 0 (or 1, both are the same). Second Life became darker with some recent Materials changes especially noticable in non-deferred thus why it is recommended to use Deferred at all times. I will NOT fix these darkening issues, these are more or less part of Materials (or not) and might be intended (or not). I have no clue hence why i will not change anything about them. Having Deferred, Tone Mapping and Color Correction active negates this darkening anyway which are also recommended to be used hence why they are implemented.

  16. loaded this viewer up on my computer and it worked beautifully. closed it and did some real life stuff. tried to load it again and now as soon as the log in screen appears it crashes and tells me secondlife has stopped working and needs to close. never had this issue with any other viewer (or previous niran viewers) so i'm not sure what happened here.. any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  17. never mind! it was my own goof. messed up my cache folder. put it in the wrong place. user error!

    ReplyDelete
  18. ok thanks for all your work Niran. I am only in non deferred for everyday walking around and can easily make a new WL preset to compensate. btw some pics with BlackDragon on my flickr named HavenHallow (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jredstar/)
